There is a connective tissue bridge between this muscle and the dura mater, which may play a role in cervicogenic headaches.
Origin: Tubercle on the posterior arch of the atlas (C1)
Insertion: It inserts into the medial part of the inferior nuchal line of the occipital bone.
Function: Extension of the head.
Nerve Supply: Suboccipital nerve (posterior ramus of C1).
Blood Supply: Rectus Capitis Posterior muscle receives blood supply from the vertebral artery and the deep descending branch of the occipital artery.
