Cox Connect2Compete Application Status Check: How to Track Your Order

September 20, 2023 - Updated on August 18, 2026
in How To

Quick answer: To check your Cox Connect2Compete application status, go to Cox’s Check Order Status page at cox.com/residential-shop/check-order-status.html. Either sign in to your Cox account, or use the guest lookup by entering the order number and the email address you used when you applied. Guest lookup only works for orders placed in the last 30 days. Still stuck? Call Cox’s Connect2Compete line at 1-844-627-5516.

When you finish the Connect2Compete online application, Cox turns it into a regular internet order on your account. So “checking your application status” and “checking your order status” are the same thing — you use Cox’s order-status tool to see where you stand, whether Cox still needs documents from you, and when your equipment is on the way.

This guide walks you through exactly how to check, what each status means in plain English, and what happens after you apply — plus how to fix the most common problem, an application that seems stuck.

What is Cox Connect2Compete? (30-second refresher)

Cox Connect2Compete is Cox’s low-cost home internet program for families with school-age children. As of this update, the plan is $9.95/month for up to 100 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload speeds, with a free Wi-Fi modem rental, no annual contract, and no installation fee.

To qualify, your household must have both:

  • At least one child in grades K–12, and
  • Enrollment in a qualifying government assistance program such as the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), SNAP, or federal public housing assistance.

You also need to live in an area where Cox internet is available. There’s no credit check and no Social Security number required to apply, but you may be asked to upload documents proving eligibility — and that document step is the #1 reason an application ends up “pending.” More on that below.

Not sure you qualify because of ACP? The federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) ended in June 2024. Connect2Compete is a separate Cox program and was not affected by ACP shutting down — it’s still available today for households that meet the requirements above.

How to check your Cox Connect2Compete application status

There are two ways to check, both on the same Cox page. Signing in shows you the most detail (including shipping/tracking info); the guest lookup is faster if you don’t have a Cox account yet.

Method 1 — Sign in to your Cox account (most detail)

  1. Go to cox.com/residential-shop/check-order-status.html.
  2. Select Sign In and log in with your Cox User ID and password.
  3. Open Order Status / Order History and click View Details on your Connect2Compete order.
  4. Review your current status, any documents Cox still needs, and — once your order ships — your equipment tracking or installation appointment.

Tip: Signed-in users can view orders across a 30-to-180-day range and see shipping information that guest lookup doesn’t show.

Method 2 — Guest lookup with your order number (no account needed)

  1. Go to cox.com/residential-shop/check-order-status.html.
  2. Under Check Home Services Order, enter the order number and the email address you used during the application.
  3. Select Check Status to see where your order stands.

Where do I find my order number? It’s in your Cox order confirmation email, sent right after you submitted the application. Check your inbox (and spam folder) for a message from Cox. If you can’t find it, use Method 1 or call 1-844-627-5516.

Important: The guest lookup only finds orders placed within the last 30 days. If it’s been longer, sign in with a Cox account or call Cox instead.

What your Cox Connect2Compete application status means

Cox’s order tool uses a small set of statuses. The two you’ll most often see spelled out are Pending and Complete — here’s what each stage means and what you should do about it.

Status / stageWhat it meansWhat you should do
Application submittedCox received your application and created an order.Watch your email for a confirmation and any request for documents.
PendingYour work order isn’t finished yet. Cox may still need information or documents from you to keep processing it.Check your email for a Cox request, and upload any proof documents right away (see below).
In progress / processingYour order cleared the first checks and Cox is preparing it — verifying details and getting equipment ready to ship.No action needed. Keep an eye out for a shipping or appointment email.
Shipped / out for deliveryYour self-install kit (Wi-Fi modem) is on its way, or a technician appointment is set.Track the shipment or note your appointment. Have your address details handy.
CompleteYour order is finished and your service is set up.If it says Complete but your internet isn’t working, call Cox for support.

A note on wording: The exact label you see can vary slightly between the website, the Cox app, and Cox emails, and only Pending and Complete are terms Cox spells out in its own help material. Treat the middle stages above as the normal journey your order moves through, not fixed codes. When in doubt, “Pending” almost always means Cox is waiting on something — usually your documents.

How to track a submitted application, step by step

Here’s the full path from “I applied” to “I’m online,” so you know what should happen next at each point:

  1. You apply online and upload documents if prompted. Cox emails you a confirmation with an order number.
  2. Cox verifies your eligibility. If your documents are clear and match, your order moves forward. If not, your status stays Pending and Cox emails you to resubmit.
  3. Your order is approved and prepared for shipment.
  4. Cox ships your self-install kit — allow 5–10 days to receive it. (If you chose professional installation, Cox schedules a technician instead.)
  5. You self-install the modem using the included EasyConnect instructions, and your service goes active. Your status shows Complete.

To watch this happen in real time, repeat Method 1 or 2 above every couple of days. Signed-in users will see shipping/tracking details appear at step 4.

What to expect after you apply (timelines)

  • Document verification: If Cox asks for proof, your application waits until you upload it and Cox reviews it. This is the single biggest factor in how long approval takes, so upload clear documents as soon as you’re asked.
  • After approval: Plan on 5–10 days to receive your self-installation kit in the mail. Professional installs are scheduled by appointment instead.
  • No word for a while? If several days pass with no update and no email, check your status online first. If it’s still unclear, call 1-844-627-5516 — an application sitting silently is usually waiting on a document.

Why is my application “pending” or stuck? (most common fix)

Nine times out of ten, a stuck Connect2Compete application is waiting on eligibility documents. When you apply, Cox may ask you to snap a photo of your paperwork and upload it at the end of the application. Applications get delayed when those documents are missing, blurry, or don’t match your account.

To avoid delays, make sure your documents clearly show all of the following:

  • Your full name (as parent/guardian)
  • Your full address, matching your service address
  • Your child’s name
  • Your child’s school name

Documents Cox commonly accepts:

Proof of a K–12 studentProof of a government assistance program
Report card or school letter (on school letterhead) showing enrollment for the current school yearCurrent-year NSLP free/reduced-lunch letter from the school or district (this can also double as proof of school enrollment)
Proof of Head Start enrollmentProof of SNAP enrollment
Proof of approved homeschoolingProof of public housing residency (including Section 8)
IEP or 504 PlanProof of TANF, WIC, or LIHEAP enrollment

Tip: A single current-year National School Lunch Program letter from your child’s school can cover both requirements at once — it’s often the fastest document to submit. Need your SNAP details for the assistance-program proof? Here’s how to check your EBT card balance.

“We can’t locate any open orders” — how to fix it

If the guest lookup says it can’t find your order, it’s usually one of these:

  • The email doesn’t match. Enter the exact email address you used on the application.
  • A typo in the email or order number. Re-type both carefully from your confirmation email.
  • It’s been more than 30 days. Guest lookup only covers recent orders — sign in to your Cox account or call Cox for older orders.
  • The application didn’t fully submit. If you never received a confirmation email, your application may not have gone through. Call 1-844-627-5516 to confirm or restart.

Other ways to check your status

  • By phone: Call Cox’s Connect2Compete/affordable-internet line at 1-844-627-5516. Have your order number, name, and service address ready.
  • In the Cox app: Sign in to the Cox app and open your orders to see status and equipment details on your phone.
  • On the Contact Us page: Cox’s website chat (via cox.com/residential/contactus.html) can also connect you with support if the phone line is busy.

Don’t qualify, or Cox isn’t in your area?

If your household doesn’t have a K–12 student, or Connect2Compete isn’t the right fit, you still have solid options:

  • Cox ConnectAssist — Cox’s other low-cost plan, $30/month, aimed at households without a K-12 child who meet income limits or are enrolled in programs like Medicaid, SNAP, a Federal Pell Grant, or public housing assistance. You can apply and check its status the same way described above.
  • Other low-income internet plans — Compare more choices in our guide to free home internet for low-income households and free internet service with food stamps (SNAP).
  • No wired internet available? A mobile hotspot can bridge the gap — see free government hotspot devices with unlimited data and, for students specifically, the T-Mobile Project 10Million hotspot.

FAQ

How do I check my Cox Connect2Compete application status?

Go to cox.com/residential-shop/check-order-status.html, then either sign in to your Cox account or enter the order number and the email address you used to apply. You’ll see whether your order is pending, in progress, or complete.

Where do I find my Cox order number?

It’s in the confirmation email Cox sent right after you submitted your application. Check your inbox and spam folder. If you can’t find it, sign in to your Cox account or call 1-844-627-5516.

How long does Cox Connect2Compete take to get approved?

It depends mostly on document verification. Once you’re approved, allow 5–10 days to receive your self-install kit. Uploading clear, matching documents when Cox asks is the fastest way to move things along.

Why is my Cox Connect2Compete application still pending?

“Pending” usually means Cox still needs something from you — most often eligibility documents. Check your email for a request from Cox and upload proof of your child’s school enrollment and your assistance program, making sure the paperwork shows your name, address, child’s name, and school.

What documents do I need for Cox Connect2Compete?

Proof of a K–12 student (like a report card or school letter) and proof of a government assistance program (like an NSLP free/reduced-lunch letter, or SNAP, TANF, WIC, or public housing paperwork). A current-year school lunch letter can often cover both.

The status page says it can’t find my order — what do I do?

Double-check the email and order number for typos, and confirm you’re using the same email you applied with. If it’s been more than 30 days, guest lookup won’t work — sign in to your Cox account or call 1-844-627-5516.

Can I check my Connect2Compete status without a Cox account?

Yes. Use the guest lookup with your order number and email on the Check Order Status page. It works for orders placed in the last 30 days; older orders require signing in.

Is Cox Connect2Compete still available after ACP ended?

Yes. The federal ACP ended in June 2024, but Connect2Compete is a separate Cox program and is still available at $9.95/month for qualifying families.

What’s the phone number to check my Cox Connect2Compete application?

Call 1-844-627-5516 for help with your Connect2Compete or ConnectAssist application and status.
